Planting Scheme for Adonis, 2021

Mourning the death of Adonis, Athenian women sang, danced and shouted from the rooftops of Athens. Planting their seedlings in terracotta pot shards. They carried the shriveled organic remnants down to coastlines and rivers to be washed away, marking the inevitable circle of growth and decay. Propagating seeds without the promise of a harvest, the participants’ mourning ritual imitated and performed cycles of the seasons.  Sourcing language from botanical healthcare zines the resulting narrative attempts to imagine alternative gardening methodology based on archival practices of preservation and care.
